Using Memory To Find Positive Feelings

For those who have difficulty experiencing positive feelings, opening the heart can be very uncomfortable.

If you struggle to find something to feel grateful for, thinking of a memory to serve as a positive emotional anchor can be useful.

The memory can be of anything that evokes a strong positive emotion. For example, the memory can be of your marriage, the birth of a child, visiting a place while travelling, or a positive childhood memory.

Although the memory may have been many years ago, the intensity of the emotion from that time can still be felt. The brain does not necessarily distinguish between past, present, and future. If you see the image in your mind, the brain will respond as if it were real.

Most people have at least one strong positive memory they can tap into when they need help shifting into a positive place.
