She has had a passion for yoga and meditation since her childhood in India. She became certified as a yoga therapist in 2015 (C-IAYT). Through her extensive training in Yoga of Awareness for Cancer, Yoga for Seniors (Duke Integrative Medicine), and Cardiac Yoga (Positive Health Solutions), she has learned to integrate mindfulness, yoga, and CBT techniques into her practice. She believes in the evidence-based mind-body integrative approach to therapy. She works with individuals and groups in stress management.
More recently, she has been training to become board certified in biofeedback. She also uses VR therapy for meditation and treatment of phobias.
Dr. Kommu's private practice also has a yoga/meditation studio where she enhances her clients treatment by offering regular meditation, yoga, and stress management courses in conjunction with regular psychotherapy practice. She works with children, adolescents, and adults, providing individual and group therapy. Group therapy utilizes CBT tools, mindfulness, meditation, and gentle yoga to treat anxiety, depression, and chronic medical issues such as fibromyalgia and chronic pain.
