Stephanie H. Best, PhD is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Certified NeuroMeditation Trainer (NMI Level 3) based in Charleston, South Carolina. In her private practice (Dr. Stephanie Best LLC), she uses a powerful mind-body approach to guide clients in un-hooking from difficult thoughts and feelings, clarifying how they yearn to show up in the world, and developing skills to nurture their wellness so they can thrive! Backed by exceptional training, personal experience, and 20 years of clinical work, Dr. Best partners with clients to empower them to create change that is both meaningful and long-lasting. She is an expert practitioner of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and has received small-group mentoring from the co-creator of ACT, himself, master clinician Steven C. Hayes, PhD. Her advanced training in mindfulness-based interventions includes an intensive course in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at Duke Integrative Medicine. Dr. Best earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Duke University and is dually licensed in both North and South Carolina. She is a long-time member of both the American Psychological Association and the North Carolina Psychological Association and is proud to serve as a Federal Advocacy Coordinator. Mental health advocacy is something that is close to her heart, and she continues to work toward a world in which mental health is valued and viewed as being critical to overall wellness.
Dr. Best has maintained a regular meditation practice of her own for over 15 years, sustained by her direct personal experience of its empirically supported mental, emotional, and physical health benefits. She enjoys teaching others about the application of neuroscience and brain-based principles to the ancient practice of meditation and has been affiliated with the NeuroMeditation Institute since 2017. Her goal is to help both new and experienced meditators individualize their practice in a way that promotes optimal health and wellness. Outside of work, Dr. Best's heart lights up when she is doing yoga, scuba diving (or communing with Mother Ocean in any form), listening to live music, taking nature walks, playing piano, rooting for Manchester United and her beloved Tar Heels, and spending quality time with family and friends.
