Savoring the Good

Feeling depressed, agitated, or anxious?

It's no wonder! The brain is designed to focus on the threatening parts of life, leaving us feeling exhausted, discouraged, and depleted.

The way to counteract this tendency is to intentionally focus on the positive.

This practice is about savoring the good.

Today, look for or simply notice a positive event in your life. Examples include someone doing something kind, your body feeling strong, or your mind feeling capable. If you are having difficulty identifying something positive, create your own positive event by doing something generous for someone else.

Savor the positive event.

Feel into it, allowing it to become an emotional experience. Notice the sensations in your body. See if you can intensify the feeling.

Extend the positive experience so that it soaks into every cell of your body.

If you are able to do this practice in the moment, wonderful! If you forget or are unable, take a few moments at night before bed to recall the positive moments of the day and savor them in the evening.

If you’d like to invite more goodness into your life, we invite you to join us for our 6-week Open Heart NeuroMeditation course. The course starts January 12 and meets each Tuesday from 4:00-6:00pm Pacific Time.
